Here is everything to know about Dave Chappelle’s kids

Dave Chappelle is the father of 3 kids and has always been in the spotlight all his life but Dave And His Wife Elaine chose to raise their three children out of the spotlight. Dave opens up on his Netflix stand-up special, “Dave Chappelle: Equanimity & The Bird Revelation”, about how he feels to watch your kids grow up.

“I see my age in my children. I came home from the road not long ago. I was gone for weeks and weeks, and when I came back, nobody was home. Not one person in my family thought maybe I’d like to see them when I got back. That s**t was a wake-up call. When my kids were little and the tour bus would pull up to the house, [they ‘d] spill out. ‘Dad is home, hooray!'” Then as the years went on, they’d get less interested. ‘Hey everybody, look: It’s Mr. Promises back from the road.'” he said

Chappelle also talked about his wife and how she helped him in his career and life and kids. “She was with me when I was poor,” Chappelle revealed to Howard Stern years ago. Chappelle also said that Elaine has there with him when he was struggling.

“My wife, if it gets really bad, she’ll let me know, like, ‘Oh, you should look into this.’ But for the most part, I try not to pay attention to it because you don’t want to be careful as a comedian. I try to keep my business small enough so it can still be authentic enough.” he revealed.

Sulayman Chappelle

The couple welcomed their first child named Sulayman, in 2001.

Sulayman Chappelle is 21 years old and is the oldest son of Dave and Elaine and is a boxing enthusiast. Dave shared about fatherhood when he first became a father and how it’s had a positive influence on his career on CBS This Morning in 2017. “Everything changed after I had children. I took my professional life more seriously. And I think, as a dude, I had more depth after I had kids.”

Sulayman is not a baby boy anymore and as he gets older, Dave is realizing just how much he and his son have in common. During his 2019 Netflix stand-up special, “Dave Chappelle: Equanimity & The Bird Revelation” Dave jokingly shared his experience of finding Sulayman smokes marijuana, and also his eldest child was into writing poetry.

“I went into my older son’s room … and I found these notebooks and I started going through the notebooks. There was all this wonderful poetry in it … Then I looked through his drawers and I opened up his middle drawer and I found his rolling paper. I looked down at the papers and said, ‘Oh, that’s where the poetry’s coming from. I mean, I smoke weed. But I mourned my son’s innocence.”

When Dave’s stand-up comedy specials are about his kids it’s always funny. The comedian shared one of his favorite stories about his middle child in the 2017 Netflix special “The Age of Spin” When Ibrahim asked for tickets to see Kevin Hart live.

“I was at home and my son busted in and said ‘Dad, Dad, I need $250 … Kevin Hart is coming to town and I want to see his show,” an apparently Ibrahim thinks Kevin’s humor is funnier than his dad’s. “My son was slapping his knee, ‘Ha ha ha ha ha ha,’ ” Dave said expressing his jealousy. “‘Uh … I do this too,’ ” he added.
